Meet Guide Robert Cushway

Guide Robert Cushway brings decades of Kenai River experience, shaped by years of studying the river’s currents, seasonal changes, and habitat patterns. His understanding of how Sockeye Salmon, King Salmon, and Rainbow Trout move through the system helps him guide guests with steady confidence. Whether it’s early summer or late fall, Robert knows how the river behaves and how to adjust each outing so anglers can enjoy a meaningful day on the water.

Robert’s calm, approachable teaching style makes him a reassuring presence for beginners while still offering valuable depth for experienced anglers. He’s well-versed in a variety of techniques—drift fishing, fly casting, spinning, light tackle, trolling, and winter setups—which allows him to adapt to changing conditions throughout the year. Guests appreciate how he explains each step clearly, creating an environment where learning comes naturally and everyone feels included.

The Boat

Robert operates a 21-foot Willie Boats aluminum vessel that was fully restored in 2022 to offer both comfort and dependable performance on the Kenai River. Powered by a reliable Yamaha engine and designed with a skiff-style layout, the boat handles the river’s varying conditions with ease. With room for up to four people including the guide, it provides a comfortable and personal setting for small groups and families. Its design supports a wide range of fishing methods, giving Robert the flexibility to position guests effectively anywhere along the river.
